Welcome back to the New Leaf Physiotherapy Blog!
I am excited to be back and going to be doing some writing to hopefully educate, empower, and help you, the reader, along your way after you have had your Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). The other more commonly used term is Total Knee Replacement (TKR). I have previously done a blog post on TKA's but I would like to put together a post surgical survival kit that can help you feeling better, faster.
Even though this blog post talks about what to do post TKA, it is best read before you have your knee surgery so you can be ready to heal faster and better then you though possible. I hear people talk about being a "fast healer". What I think that means is that person is very much in touch with their body and their ability to heal. They have a few "healthy habits" and those in turn can really help them to heal much faster.
I have been a physiotherapist for over 20 years but in the past year, I have gained a ton (more) experience working with clients that have under gone a TKA. There were some things that I was hearing from my colleagues that were great and not so great, in my opinion. We are going to a mini-series on different aspects of TKA that do not get talked about as much as they should. Or at least, as much as I think they should be talked about.
What are some of the topics we are going to cover? Pain, hydration, exercises and swelling, just to name a few.
Every 2 weeks we will be posting a new blog post in this series! There are 6 or 7 blog posts in this series. Stay tuned to learn more about how you can be better prepared for your knee replacement!
